ECOOM Analytical Centre

ECOOM Analytical Centre has been conducting public opinion polls and sociological surveys since 2004, using proprietary methods and procedures. For scientific advice and general guidance ECOOM relies on:

- scientific adviser Alexander Danilov, Corresponding Member of the National Science Academy of Belarus (NSA), Doctor of Sociology;
- ECOOM Vice Director Sergei Shavel, Doctor of Sociology;

The head of EcooM Analytical Center is Sergey Musiyenko.

Depending on the field under study, the centre invites top professional experts to contribute to the survey. By now ECOOM has invited some 70 Doctors of Science and Candidates of Science to provide corresponding scientific background for the sociological surveys conducted.

EcooM Analytical Center has conducted over sixty surveys on various subjects, custom-made for the government and its agencies, Belarus-based companies and enterprises.

Here are the most recent sociological surveys conducted by ECOOM:

- “Nuclear Power Engineering and Population”, April 2007 - a public opinion poll to know the general public’s attitude to the prospects of building Belarus’ first nuclear power plant. Scientific supervisor –Belarus NSA Academician O. Martynenko;

- “Horoscopes and Fortune-telling”, March 2007. Scientific supervisor –Doctor of Philosophy A. Gordei;

“State Bodies of Power”, February 2007. Scientific supervisor – Sergei Shavel, Doctor of Sociology;

“Corruption and Society”, January 2007. Scientific supervisor – A. Tikhanski, Doctor of Sociology;

Besides, ECOOM was the one to conduct Belarus’ first ever exit polls during the 2004 nationwide referendum, with 47 groups (256 interviewers) operating in all regions of Belarus. Back then they interviewed over 18,000 people.

Also, ECOOM conducted exit polls at the March 19 2006 presidential elections in Belarus.

ECOOM regularly contributes to Obozrevatel Weekly, providing on a long-term basis analytical materials and public opinion poll data.

ECOOM had a proprietary TV show (Express Poll) on STV-Ren TV television for two years.

Since October 2006 until present ECOOM produces Your Opinion television series for Belarus’ Television and Radio Company (25 three-minute programmes a month). For the time being, the analytical centre is developing a new television show for Belarus TV satellite television.

Moreover, ECOOM Analytical Centre participates in preparing different scientific activities and projects. In particular, the centre held Livadia Club’s scientific conference dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Dismantling of the USSR (December 2006, Brest-Viskuli). Amid preparations for the conference ECOOM conducted a comparative survey in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine to see how these nations feel about the fall of the Soviet Union.

ECOOM has developed a wide network of interviewers in all regions of Belarus – a can’t-do-without prerequisite for prompt polls.
